Because tournament masterpoints are based on tables, not competitors, the individual event awards only half the masterpoints of the pairs event and only one quarter the masterpoints of a team event. As noted, the difference between pair events and team events does not appear in club games. I think that the individual awards only 1/4 the points of both the pair and team events.
This has essentially killed the individual event in ACBL-land.
I have a fondness for the individual event, and I hope to play in one some day. I think this event has untapped potential. However, this event cannot be developed until it awards the same masterpoints per person as pair and team events.
I am hoping that in the course of correcting the gross inequality between team and pair events, that the awards for the individual will also be corrected. This happens naturally when tables are replaced with competitors.
